PDM Violates Section 144 in Islamabad, Enters Red Zone for Sit-In Protest

According to reports on Monday, the members of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) violated the imposition of Section 144 in the federal capital by entering the red zone of Islamabad.

Reports indicate that a significant group of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) workers managed to enter the red zone of Islamabad on foot and in various trucks and vehicles, despite attempts by the capital police to prevent their entry.

Today, the PDM had planned to hold a sit-in outside the Supreme Court in Islamabad; however, sources suggest that Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the leader of the PDM, has now agreed to hold the sit-in at D-chowk instead.

In response to the sit-in protest called by the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) against the judiciary’s decision to grant ‘extraordinary relief’ to PTI chairman Imran Khan in several cases, there are concerns that internet services and social media may be suspended in the capital city. It is worth noting that the protest is taking place despite the imposition of Section 144 in the area.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F), and Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP), all parties in the coalition government, are holding rallies en route to join the ongoing protest. Meanwhile, Federal Minister Ishaq Dar and Rana Sanaullah had a meeting with Maulana Fazlur Rehman on the previous day, during which they requested the PDM not to hold the protest outside the Supreme Court (SC).

Despite the federal government’s request to change the protest venue, JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman has declined to comply. In related news, Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) president Maulana Fazlur Rehman recently declared that the PDM will persist with the sit-in protest outside the Supreme Court of Pakistan until Chief Justice of Pakistan, Umar Ata Bandial, resigns from his position.

On May 12, the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) leadership requested permission from the local district administration to stage a sit-in protest outside the premises of the Supreme Court in response to the release orders granted to PTI chief Imran Khan. Additionally, the Supreme Court has summoned Imran Khan for a hearing on various cases.
