Kuwaiti lawyer Haya Al Shalahi highlights a startling development: Sending a heart emoji to women on platforms like WhatsApp now deemed “incitement to debauchery.” This act could lead to up to two years in prison and a fine of up to 2,000 Kuwaiti dinars.
Saudi Arabia enforces strict rules against love-filled emojis. Cybercrime specialist Al Moataz Kutbi warns that sending a ‘red heart’ emoji on WhatsApp could considered “harassment” under Saudi Arabia’s laws.
In Saudi Arabia, digital affection can lead to harsh penalties. Offenders face 2-5 years in prison and a 100,000 Saudi Riyals fine. Online conversations with certain images or phrases may result in harassment charges if the victim files a formal complaint.
For individuals with prior offenses, the penalties are stricter. Repeat offenders may face a higher fine of up to 300,000 Saudi Riyals and up to five years in prison.
